This three and a half day course will highlight activities for professionally trained dogs to work with individuals with Cerebral Palsy (CP). This course is meant for parents who have procured assistance dogs for children with CP, for professional dog trainers who place dogs with individuals with CP, and for social service/healthcare workers who have obtained a dog from an assistance dog training organization (such as Assistance Dogs of the West, Power Paws, Canine Partners of the Rockies, Canine Companions for Independence, etc.). Content will detail interventions and third party assistance dog placement activities. Participants will explore will cerebral palsy classification, signs and symptoms, animal assisted interventions and precautions. Dog handlers (trainers, parents, social service/healthcare providers) will collaborate about specific activities and training methodologies.
We offer special thanks to the Ferrell family and to Assistance Dogs of the West for a hands-on case study of a third party placement, the first day and a half of this workshop.
This workshop is limited to 5 participant/dog teams. Contact Dogwood for more information and registration.
